HistoryNowadays both producers and consumers pay much more attention to “ecologically clean” products. One of the ecologically clean production methods that is getting more popular all over the world is an organic agriculture. The simplest determination of it was given in 980 by the experimental group of the correspondent US Department of Agriculture (USDA): “Organic agriculture is a system of agricultural producing, which forbids the use of synthetic combined agricultural chemicals, pesticides, growth-regulators, and supplement feeds for cattle feeding”. The first organic movement appeared in Great Britain in the 40-s of the last century. At the same time the term “organic” was used for the first time in the scientific work by Eva Balfur Zhyva Zemlja, where she compared organic and conventional production methods. Since the middle of the 21st century an active development of this movement has started and a number of non-governmental organizations have been founded in order to control food producers. One of the biggest and the most influential organizations in the world is the International Federation of Organic Movement (IFOAM). It was founded in 1972 and it connects now organizations from 108 countries of the world. Up to date more than 28 ml ha is used for organic production in the world. The major bases on which the organic production is based is disuse of mineral amendments of a synthetic nature, growth -regulators and genetically modified organisms and products of their life; use of natural means and methods for control of parasites and plant diseases; disuse of antibiotic for disease prevention and hormone-like material for growth regulation, etc. Thus, in the process of organic production one gets a natural useful product that tastes delicious. Scientists proved that on the average organic food in comparison to the traditional one contains more vitamin C and necessary minerals such as Ca, Ma, Fe, Cr as well as by 10-15% more of phenolic compounds, that prevent cancer. Organic milk, for instance, contains more fatty acids omega-3, vitamin E, and A (beta-carotene). In general organic agriculture supports more wildlife on agricultural lands than non organic one. The British Government claimed that it was better for the wildlife; it did not pollute by aerosols, created less of H2 – the basis of the gas that causes global warming, and made less dangerous wastes. |
